Veloster Technology has introduced the MoBeeGo, a single-use emergency charger for smartphones and tablets. The device comes in two components, the re-usable adapter and a battery designed to look like a soda can. This design was deliberate as part of the “energy drink for your phone” tagline behind the MoBeeGo.
The adapter comes in two flavours; a microUSB connector for Android and one for iOS Lightning connectors. Sadly, there is no interchangeability between the two; although that may not be as much of an issue in practice.
Conversely, the battery pack is designed for easy storage and connection. It stores a capacity of 1700mAh, which is said to provide up to four hours of extra power for a smartphone. Of course, this depends on the type of usage. Veloster says that the MoBeeGo battery may only last an hour for heavy usage.
These batteries have a 10-year shelf life, allowing them to sit unused for a long time before they are needed – if they are ever needed. The purpose is to provide an emergency backup to power banks in the event of a long day without the opportunity to recharge either device. In theory, the microUSB version could also charge a power bank.
The MoBeeGo will be on sale at myNews.com outlets nationwide. The Single Shot starter pack will retail for RM29 and include the adapter and a battery can. Each additional battery cans can be bought for RM10 – or RM55 for a six pack.
