Earlier this year, the rumor of a new PlayStation 4 variant starting to make its way around the scene. As it turns out, the rumor is indeed spot on as Andrew House, the President and Group CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed that the company is indeed working on “high-end” version of PS4.
Also known via its codename “Neo”, the new variant apparently able to deliver better graphics at 4K UHD resolution according to the report. Furthermore, Andrew stated that the new variant will be sold alongside existing PlayStation 4 models and supports the equally new PlayStation VR headset.
In terms of compatibility with existing PS4 titles, Andrew is confident that majority of the games – if not all of them – will be able to support the high-end PS4. At the same time, developers will only face “small but manageable” extra work when crafting games that support both systems.
As exciting as this news might be, Sony apparently will not be launching the new PS4 variant at the upcoming E3 2016 and Andrew didn’t reveal any information regarding the console’s actual release or pricing as well. Guess we still need to wait a little bit longer before we can see the new PS4 Neo in action.
