With less than a day left before the official release date for Nvidia’s recently announced GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition graphics card, local retailers have managed to list the retail price for the “less powerful” GTX 1080 sibling here in Malaysia. It’s worth mentioning that according to Nvidia, the GTX 1070 Founders Edition will retail for US$449, which is about RM1,820 at the current exchange rate.
As expected, the US$449 price tag for the GTX 1070 FE will not necessarily be reflected when it comes in our shores. Several local retailers have began listing the graphics card at RM2,399 – about RM579 more compared to the original price. However, when one takes into consideration about the “additional charges” it takes to bring the GTX 1070 into Malaysia, it makes sense for the graphics card to have a significant bump in price – for now.
Take for example the GTX 1080 FE that officially went on sale on the 27th of May (and shortly after in Malaysia). It had a recommended retail price of US$699 (about RM2,820), but local retailers in Malaysia decided to smack the graphics card with a RM3,399 price tag. Again, this is fairly reasonable when one considers the “supplementary costs”.
Amongst the local retailers that have begun listing the GTX 1070 FE price are Ideal Tech and Techview. That said, do expect the GTX 1070 Founders Edition graphics card to sell like hot Murtabak in Ramadhan bazaars, simply because of its “sweet” price/performance offering.
