Google recently introduced a brand new iOS app that helps turn the Live Photos you take into shareable GIFs so that anyone of your friends, not just iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus users, can see your pictures come to live.
Call Motion Stills, all you need to do is download the app and grant it access to your photo album. After that, you will be able to see all your Live Photos, and a tap of a button will allow you to share individual photos as a GIF or clip via email, as a message, on the social network and more.
But what makes Motion Stills interesting is that it does more than just turn photos into GIFs. According to Google, they have applied their video stabilisation technology into the app as well. Similar to what the company has in its Photos app, it is able to freeze the background so only the subject is animated, to give it a more dramatic effect.
Google says that Motion Stills uses “linear programming to compute virtual camera path that is optimised to recast videos and bursts as if they were filmed using stabilisation equipment, yielding a still background or creating cinematic pans to remove shakiness”. The difference, as shown below, is pretty impressive.
The app is available right now for free on the App Store so if you have an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus, check out what it can do.
