Yesterday, the official Malaysian retail price of the Sony Xperia X was revealed ahead of its local unveiling. Today, Sony Malaysia has officially introduced the whole lineup along with the retail prices of two other devices: the Xperia XA & XA Ultra.
Let’s start with the most capable smartphone in the series for our market, the RM2,499 Xperia X. While it may have a steep price tag, it is more a mid-range offering than a high-end one. It is packing a 5-inch 1080p IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable storage, as well as modest 2,620mAh battery that can supposedly last up to two days.
In the camera department, things get a lot more interesting: the Xperia X actually shares the same cameras as the higher-end Xperia X Performance. The Xperia X has a 23MP rear camera with Predictive Hybrid autofocus – along with phase detection autofocus – and a 13MP front-facing shooter.
One tier down is the Xperia XA Ultra and XA, which are priced at RM1,699 and RM1,199 respectively; both smartphones are powered by a MediaTek Helio P10 processor paired with 3GB of RAM (2GB on the XA) and 16GB of expandable storage. As its name suggests, the XA Ultra is the bigger device of the two: it has a huge 6-inch 1080p display, a modest 2,700mAh battery, a 16MP front camera with optical image stabilisation (Sony says this device is perfect for taking selfies, naturally), along with a 21.5MP rear camera. The XA, on the other hand, has a smaller 5-inch 720p display, a rather small 2,300mAh battery, a 13MP rear camera, and an 8MP front-facing shooter.
The Sony Xperia X and Xperia XA will be available nationwide from 22 June onwards, while the XA Ultra will only arrive in Malaysia next month in July. It still remains to be seen if Sony Malaysia will ever bring in the flagship Xperia X Performance.
