Known for its blazing performance, a growing number of manufacturers have begun to bring out their NVMe solid state drives to the market. Among the companies that have did so at Computex this year is Plextor with its first ever NVMe SSD, the M8Pe series which is designed for gamers and other type of high performance users
Available with storage of up to 1TB, the new M8Pe SSDs apparently able to achieve sequential read and write speed of up to 2,500 MB/s and 1,400 MB/s respectively. Featuring Marvell 88SS1093 controller and the 15nm Toshiba Toggle TLC NAND flash, the M8Pe SSDs are also equipped with heatsink to helps keep their operating temperature under control.
While Plextor does produce a heatsink-less variant called M8Se, we were told that this particular model is not targeted at end users. As for release date, the new M8Pe SSDs which are available in HHHL and M.2 form factors are scheduled to meet consumers throughout the world later this month.
Meanwhile, Plextor has also launched another product at Computex 2016 in the form of EX1 external SSD. Featuring a polished metal exterior and USB 3.1 Type-C port, users are able to obtain it with capacities of up to 512GB.
In terms of performance, the EX1 might not be able to beat the M8Pe series but rest assured, it is way faster than a normal flash drive. No price was mentioned although users will apparently able to see the new EX1 external solid state drive at stores throughout the world starting this July.
