At MSI’s official Computex 2016 launch, the Taiwanese company will announce an update to its recently-announced Aegis desktop. This stunning looking ATX compact PC will not only receive an Intel Core i7 unlocked processor, but the new Aegis X will even sport up to an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 GPU alongside a few new features.
As you can clearly see, the Aegis X looks nothing like a desktop CPU unit. The design evokes something out of a sci-fi mecha anime, and the raised back profile certainly adds to the whole look.
Surprisingly, it isn’t merely about aesthetics either. Despite the compact size – the Aegis has a total capacity of just 19.6 litres (dimensions: 433.1 x 376.1 x 169.92 mm) – the desktop sports a feature called Silent Storm Cooling 2.
It’s a system that incorporates the Aegis’ unique design to funnel air through three separate channels that goes directly through the three most important components: the processor, GPU, and PSU which is located at the bottom portion.
Despite the size, MSI’s engineers have crafted the Aegis to not only hold the powerful CPU and GPU, there’s even space for two RAM slots, five storage “bays” (2x NVMe PCI-e SSD, 2x 3.5″ HDD, 1x 2.5″ SSD), and even a DVD drive. What’s more, MSI designed the chassis to allow easy access to the components, which are user-upgradeable.
Just like the Backpack PC, it is also VR-ready, conforming to the hardware standards as required by Oculus and HTC to run VR games smoothly. There’s also a one-click OC Genie button that instantly boosts performance should you need it.
MSI has not yet confirmed details on final hardware and pricing, but its official launch event later tonight should reveal more. It has been confirmed that the Aegis X will be available in several hardware configurations, tailored towards specific markets.
We’ll update this post with more details after the launch.
