At a time when virtual reality and 360-degree videos are becoming more and more popular, what’s a smartphone launch without a VR headset to go along with it? On top of just launching the Axon 7, ZTE also took the curtains off its VR headset that is made for its brand new smartphone.
Called the ZTE VR, the headset is basically the Chinese company’s version of Samsung’s Gear VR. It lets you put in the Axon 7 so you can step into the world of virtual reality. Just like other VR headsets, there are some buttons on the ZTE VR, what looks like a control pad that can be swiped, and a 9-axis gyroscope for motion tracking. ZTE did not provide any details, but it’ll probably work like other similar VR headset where most of the tech will depend on the phone.
Since the Axon 7 will be upgradable to Android N when it becomes available later this year, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the ZTE VR will support Daydream. Sadly though, the company did not mention whether it is a Daydream-compatible headset, or if it simply means that the phone can use Android Daydream.
