Samsung’s next flagship phablet will be called Galaxy Note 7 instead of Note 6, if a report from South Korea is to be believed. This would mean that Samsung, for the first time, will be leaping over a number since it released the Galaxy smartphones.
Citing multiple high industry sources in reporting the alleged move, The Electronic Times – a Korean IT news portal – claims that Samsung wants to make the generation number consistent with its pair of flagship phone, the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. “When Galaxy Note 6 that has its model number lower than Galaxy S7, which is the newest model, is released, it can give out a feeling that it is an outdated phone”, said a high-ranking representative of a telecommunication industry.
What’s more, Samsung is also reportedly bringing the popular dual-edge screen to the new Galaxy Note. Until now, Samsung has only applied edge on one side of the Note series; for Note 5 the glass back is curved.
The report goes on to say that the purported Galaxy Note 7 will be released sometime around August like its predecessor.
