For those of you who are using the PayPal app on your Windows Phone, BlackBerry and even Amazon Fire OS devices, do note that the company will soon stop its support for its app on these devices. PayPal will shift all its focus to iOS and Android app, and of course its web service.
Don’t be too upset though, PayPal will only sunset the current version of its mobile app on these platforms. Windows Phone, Amazon Fire or BlackBerry users will still be able to access PayPal’s mobile web version using a mobile browser like Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge and such. Outlook.com users can also use PayPal add-in to send money directly from their inbox, and BlackBerry users can continue to use their BBM app to send peer-to-peer payments via PayPal.
The announcement was made on a blog post calling users to upgrade their PayPal app to the latest version. The update, version 6.0, will be available starting 3 June through 30 June 2016, and is supported for the following devices:
- Android devices running on OS 4.03 or higher
- Apple devices running iOS 8.1 or higher; iPhone 4S and above, iPad 2 and above, and iPod Touch 5th gen or above
