Samsung Malaysia has recently announced on its Facebook page that the 2016 iteration of the Galaxy Tab A – the 7-inch model, of course – is now available on our shores. Retailing at RM799, it is perfect for those who are looking for an affordable Android tablet.
Oddly enough, Samsung Malaysia did not specify which model of the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) it has brought in. Usually, Samsung’s range of tablets are available in two models, and the same applies to this new device: there is the WiFi only model and an LTE enabled variant. That said, a quick check on Samsung Malaysia’s website revealed that we are in fact getting the LTE model.
Touted as an affordable tablet, the Galaxy Tab A 7.0 (2016) naturally has a modest set of specifications. It features a 7-inch 1280 x 800 IPS display, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor paired with 1.5GB of RAM, only 8GB of internal storage (don’t worry; it is expandable with a microSD card up to 200GB), along with Android 5.1 Lolipop out of the box.
Rounding out the specifications of this year’s Galaxy Tab A 7.0 are a 5MP rear camera, a more modest 2MP front-facing shooter, as well as a 4,000mAh battery. Looking at this tablet’s specifications, they are by no means high-end, but it should be more than capable for media consumption and light usage.
Just like last year’s models of the Samsung Galaxy Tab A, there are in fact two sizes of the tablet. Now that the 7-inch model is here in Malaysia, it remains to be seen if the 10.1 variant will be sold here as well.
