Samsung’s upcoming rugged variant of the Galaxy S7 duo, the aptly named S7 Active, has had its specifications leaked ahead of its supposed unveiling next month. Packed with a bigger battery and tougher design, the S7 Active is quite an appealing device.
Unlike the Galaxy S7 edge‘s dual-curve display, the S7 Active naturally has a conventional 5.1-inch 2560 x 1440 Super AMOLED display, much like the standard Galaxy S7. Even though the S7 Active has a smaller display than the S7 edge, it has a whopping 4,000mAh battery; the latter has a 3,600mAh cell instead. Of course, the bigger battery does come at a cost: the S7 Active measures 9.9mm thick, while the S7 edge is only 7.7mm thin.
Aside from a bigger battery capacity, the S7 Active retains the rugged design of its predecessor, the Galaxy S6 Active. It still boasts water and dust resistance, and it looks like it can take some beating with no issue. Under the hood, the S7 Active shares many similarities with the S7 and S7 edge, including a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, and of course, a 12MP dual-pixel rear camera complemented by a 5MP front-facing shooter.
As was the case with the Samsung Galaxy S6 Active, the S7 Active is reportedly exclusive to AT&T in the US; it will supposedly launch on 10 June as well. While it’s likely that the S7 Active will not be available in Malaysia, it still remains to be seen.
