Google has launched a new keyboard application for iOS that features a built-in Google Search function. The new application is called GBoard and is available on the AppStore for free.
The built-in search feature can be accessed through the Google icon on the upper left corner. The information is then presented in a clean card-styled layout and can be instantly pasted anywhere. In addition the keyboard also offers swipe typing, access to a library of online gifs, as well as simple emoji searches.
“Searching and sending stuff on your phone shouldn’t be that difficult. With Gboard, you can search and send all kinds of things—restaurant info, flight times, news articles—right from your keyboard.”says Rajan Patel, the Principal Engineer at Google in a blog post.
The “GBoard” looks to be the iOS version of the Google’s popular Google Now On Tap service, but with a few workarounds due to the limitation of the platform itself. With a couple of Google’s best features thrown into the mix, the new keyboard application might just be the best third party keyboard for iOS, yet. The new keyboard application is currently a US-only affair, but expect it to be launched in other regions in the coming weeks.
