Sony Malaysia confirmed in late February that the new Xperia X series – which is replacing the Z series – will be arriving in Malaysia. With the global rollout of the X series happening soon, it appears these devices may be launched here in the very near future.
To our surprise, we spotted the new Xperia X in SIRIM’s database. The device has been registered under three companies: Sony Malaysia, Thorus Technology, as well as Vmatrics. The SIRIM certification also revealed that it is the dual-SIM variant of the Xperia X.
In Sony’s Xperia X series, the X is actually the mid-range device. That said, it has similar hardware with the highest-end X Performance: both smartphones feature a 5-inch 1080p display, 3GB of RAM, microSD card expansion, a metal unibody design, as well as 32GB of internal storage – the dual-SIM variant of the X has up to 64GB of memory instead.
Rounding out the specifications of these devices are a 23MP rear camera with Predictive Hybrid Autofocus, a 13MP front-facing snapper, and a 2,700mAh battery – the X, on the other hand, has a slightly smaller 2,620mAh battery. What truly differentiates the X Performance from the lower-end X is the choice of processor. The former has a very capable Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, while the latter is packed with a mid-range Snapdragon 650 chipset.
Of course, there is also the “super mid-range” Xperia XA. As the most affordable model in the lineup, it has a 5-inch 720p display instead, along with a MediaTek Helio P10 processor paired with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of expandable storage, a plastic construction, as well as 13MP rear and 8MP front-facing cameras. Interestingly, Sony also claims that the XA has up to two days of battery life with only a 2,300mAh battery.
While only the Sony Xperia X has appeared on SIRIM, the other devices in the series may be registered with the certification body in the near future. Here’s hoping Sony Malaysia will be launching the X series here soon.
