Firaxis has released the announcement trailer for Civilization VI, the latest installment in the time warping Civilization series. Like Civilization V, the developers are trying new things with this iteration of the game; and making people think harder about where they build cities.
Civilization VI introduces the idea of building city expansions into surrounding tiles. This means that instead of a single tile, cities will organically expand across an entire region. It also means that warfare will change, as players will have to option to simply raid a specific building instead of dedicating a force to take the entire city.

Technology research is also being given a geographic boost; where players will receive mini-quests that will allow them to half the amount of time needed to research particular upgrades. This could be as simple as owning a rock quarry to speed up masonry research, or building a fleet of ships to upgrade nautical related tech.
There looks to be other minor changes as well to the game, including giving the AI opponents proper motivation instead of simply having Ghandi nuke everyone all the time. Combat is also being tweaked by allowing units to build smaller attachments to give them extra capabilities
Civilization VI is scheduled to be released on 23 October 2016; although we will likely see more of the game when it is previewed at E3 this year.
