Whatsapp has released a new desktop app for Windows and Mac users. The new desktop app is now available for download with the requirement of Windows 8 and above or Mac OS X Mavericks (10.9) and above.
Like its browser based counterpart, the new desktop app is simply an extension of the mobile app; where conversations and messages are synchronised with a mobile device. However, the new client runs natively on desktop, which means that users will get support for native notifications and better keyboard shortcuts – among other features.
To sync the desktop app with a device, users simply scan the QR code using the WhatsApp mobile app – the feature can be found under “Settings”> “WhatsApp Web”. It may take a while for the updated menu to appear on all mobile devices.
With more than 1 billion of active users using the messaging platform, the addition of an extra platform is more than a welcome one. The desktop app is now available for download here.
