The Xiaomi Yi 4K Action Camera 2 might be unveiled as early as the 12th of May, according to an Instagram photo posted by the official Yi Camera page. They have also uploaded the official product photos to their Facebook page and warned that the information leaked yesterday was not all accurate.
The next generation Yi Action Camera will feature 4K video recording as opposed to the previous 1080p. It is said to house Sony’s IMX 377 image sensor that supports 4K video recording at up to 30 fps. Under the hood, it comes with Ambarella A9SE75 chip which is said to be offer both high performance and low power consumption.
The product page also reveals that the Yi Action Camera 2 will have an aperture of f/2.8 coupled with seven layers of optical glass lenses. This supposedly increase the light intake, improving the quality of photos taken. The new action camera will also for the first time, feature a Gorilla Glass touch screen display on the back. The 2.19-inch display will have a viewing angle of 160-degree and a resolution of 640×360, which brings to a decent ppi of 330. The battery has also been upgraded to 1400 mAh and the new standby time is rated at eight hours, and 110 minutes when shooting at 4K.
Connectivity wise, it uses a Broadcom chip and supports the 802.11a/b/g/n dual band Wi-Fi. The download speed is said to reach up to 30 Mbps. Going to the software side, Xiaomi has also prepared an updated home app for the new action camera, dubbed the the Yi Action Camera App 3.0. The new app has an Instagram feel to it; users can play with the filters and presets available in-app and upload it to a community which Xiaomi calls it the Yi Community.
Pricing and availability is still unavailable at the moment, but it should not be long before Xiaomi makes this official.
