Sega owned Relic Entertainment has announced the much awaited Dawn of War III. The game promises a mix of base building in the style of the original Dawn of War, while also including customisable elite squads and characters from Dawn of War II.
DoW3 will feature only three factions at launch, the Blood Ravens, Orks, and Eldar. The Blood Ravens are one of the 13 Space Marine chapters, and fulfill the place of humans in the game. It isn’t known there the other factions from the tabletop game will be added later, but one can only expect that there will be DLC for Tyranids and Necrons somewhere down the line.
Relic will also be introducing super massive units to the DoW franchise for the first time. Each faction will have its own gargantuan unit to dominate the battlefield, although these will take up one of the three Elite unit slots available to a player. The announcement trailer already shows two of these units, the Space Marine Imperial Knight and the Eldar Wraithknight.
Warhammer 40K owner Games Workshop has been on a video game licensing spree as of late with several games set in its universe already announced. Where DoW3 fits into the release schedule is still unknown, but it looks like it could be an exciting throwback to classic RTS games.
