Just recently, LG has unveiled its 2016 lineup of 4K OLED TVs in Malaysia. These TVs are unique in the sense that they are HDR televisions with an OLED panel; other brands usually opt for an LCD panel instead, such as Sony’s recently launched HDR TVs.

OLED TVs are superior to LCD televisions in one particularly important area: black level. Unlike LCD panels, OLED displays do not need a backlight of any kind as the pixels are “self-lighting,” according to LG. This basically means really, really good black levels as the individual pixels are actually switched off.

For the Malaysian market, LG is bringing in two 4K OLED TVs: the E6 and C6. On paper, the E6 is the higher-end model, thanks to its unique “Picture-On-Glass” design – this reduces the thickness of the TV to a mere 2.57mm. The C6, on the other hand, does not have the same sleek design, but unlike the E6, it’s actually a curved TV. In terms of retail price, the 65-inch LG E6 will go for RM32,999, while the C6 will retail at RM12,999 and RM27,999 for the 55-inch and 65-inch models respectively. Both of these OLED TVs will be available in June 2016.

At the launch event, LG also mentioned that its 86-inch UH955T Super UHD 4K TV will also be coming to Malaysia sometime in May 2016. Unlike the company’s range of OLED TVs, this particular model has an IPS display instead. Not surprisingly, it is also a HDR TV, and it is set to go for RM42,999 once it arrives in Malaysia next month.
