Facebook today has announced a group calling feature in its Messenger app, and global roll out can be expected over the next 24 hours, available for iOS and Android.
To start a group call, just tap on the phone icon that should show up after you have updated to the latest version of Messenger. From there, you can manage the individual participants in the chat. According to Facebook, you can have up to 50 people in a group call.
After separating their Messenger app as a standalone platform, Facebook has been adding a slew of new features to their instant messaging service. This can be seen as an attempt to compete with similar players in the field, like Google Hangouts and Skype. Just last week, Facebook announced the addition of the AI Chatbots for Messenger, an automated messaging service for Facebook Messenger.
With over 900 million of monthly active users , the addition of group calls in Messenger is more than a welcome one. While there’s no group video calling yet, expect one to come eventually.
