Earlier this year, we noticed that this particular laptop has appeared on SIRIM which generally means that it has met local regulations and legally approved for release in Malaysia. True enough, the mighty ASUS Republic of Gamers GX700 liquid-cooled gaming laptop is somehow quietly available at a local retailer although the circumstances behind its availability in our market are still not clear to us.
This is due to the fact that the laptop is not listed inside ASUS Malaysia’s latest product guide which covers April to May 2016. On another hand, there is also not much reason to doubt the listing as well since it belonged to TechHyperMart which is an established IT retailer located in Puchong.
Available for RM 18,999 at the retailer’s own online store and Lelong store front, the GX700 carries the 2.7GHz Intel Core i7-6820HK processor together with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and two 256GB solid state drive. Powering its 17.3-inch full HD (1920 x 1200) G-SYNC enabled display is the desktop-grade NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 GPU with 8GB worth of GDDR5 memory.
When compared to prices in other countries within the region, the GX700 price tag that was quoted by TechHyperMart is higher than Singapore which currently stands at SGD 6,198 (RM 17,966). However, it is still much cheaper than Indonesia which was listed at IDR 79,999,000 (RM 23,908) although the Indonesian variant apparently comes with more memory and storage than the GX700 that is available in Singapore and Malaysia.
Together with its massive physique, the RM 18,999 price tag is definitely another reason why the GX700 is not for everyone. Nevertheless, it is still a highly unique gaming laptop.
