Huawei’s first smartphone co-developed with Leica, the P9, may be launched in Malaysia very, very soon. If we were to go by Huawei’s launch time frame with its previous devices, the P9 may be officially announced in Malaysia as early as next month.
Of course, at this point in time, the estimated launch date is merely an educated guess. While the Mate S took only a month to be launched after it has appeared on SIRIM, it took the Mate 8 two months instead; it’s hard to say when exactly the P9 will be launched, although its predecessor, the P8, arrived in Malaysia in June last year.
Oddly enough, we only spotted the Huawei P9 in SIRIM’s database. Its larger, more feature-packed variant, the P9 Plus, was nowhere to be found. Then again, Huawei may be preparing to register said smartphone with the certification body as we speak.
The P9 registered with SIRIM has the model number “EVA-L19.” This is the base variant of the P9 with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, as well as dual-SIM support; it also comes in three different colours: Prestige Gold, Titanium Grey and Mystic Silver. It will be interesting to see if Huawei Malaysia will bring in more than one variant of the P9, as was the case with the Mate 8.
At the time of this writing, we have yet to hear from Huawei Malaysia of any upcoming event, although the company has recently shared an image of Kuala Lumpur taken with the P9 on its Facebook page. Hopefully, the Huawei P9 will be officially launched here very soon.
