Huawei has filed for a trademark of the “Huawei 7P” with the US Patents and Trademarks Office. While the trademark filling does not reveal anything about what the company is working on, there is speculation that this could be a followup to the Nexus 6P.
The name “7P” suggests that this could be the follow-up to the Nexus 6P, as it follows the same numbering convention. If the Nexus naming convention holds true (Google typically names their devices based on screen size), we might be looking at a 7-inch Nexus tablet made by Huawei. In that case, the Huawei 7P may be the successor to the ever popular Nexus 7 series that was last refreshed on 2013.
However, Huawei may release the 7P as a variant of the Nexus 6P without stock Android. This is the more likely explanation for the device, considering the lack of Nexus branding in the trademark filing.
In any case, it will be a long while before we find out what Huawei is up to. It will be several months before the trademark is granted; and the company is not likely to make any announcements before then.
