If you think that U Mobile’s recent RM10 daily data roaming is cheap, the telco has got something even more exciting to offer. Available from today onwards, selected U Mobile postpaid subscribers may roam and use their existing data at no extra charge.
Called U Mobile’s Data Backpack, subscribers on P70, i90, i130, UD95 and UD135 postpaid plans will be able to use existing postpaid plan data quota in 12 selected countries, and it’s completely free. The countries are Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, South Korea, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan and Philippines.
“U Mobile is a data centric telco, we are always innovating to ensure that our customers get the best value and best quality data experience possible. U Mobile’s Data Backpack, we believe will be of huge benefit as our digitally savvy customers can now tap into their postpaid plan data quota when overseas without incurring any extra cost.” – Jasmine Lee, Chief Marketing Officer, U Mobile.
Since Data Backpack lets you use existing data while you are roaming, there will be no passes to purchase or expiry. Everything will follow your bill and for those who would like additional data, you may purchase the local RM10 for 1.5GB of data valid for 3 days, and use it while you are in these 12 selected countries. No subscription is needed either, with roaming activated for your U Mobile line, just travel to these countries, connect to the correct operator and surf away.
Make sure you manually connect to the preferred roaming operator
As for other subscribers on other plans, including prepaid users, you may use the newly announced U Data Roam 10 that offers “high speed unlimited data” at RM10 a day in the same 12 countries. This is currently the lowest unlimited data roaming rate from a Malaysian telco. For other countries, check out U Mobile for the rates and preferred roaming partner.
As usual, to enjoy this offer, make sure you are connected to U Mobile’s preferred roaming partner when you arrive at any of the 12 countries. You must manually make the selection to prevent your phone from switching to another carrier, otherwise you will be charged at a rather hefty pay-per-use rate that could result in a major bill shock. Do note that this is only valid for data, voice calls and SMS sent will be charged at a pay-per-use rate.
