Google’s next version of Android is not exactly a secret, although there are a few details that are still unknown. However, Samsung may have revealed the version number for the operating system; which doesn’t tell us much but may hint at bigger changes.
An entry in Samsung’s multi-window SDK changelog reveal compatibility with Android N (7.0). Version numbers generally indicate the severity of changes implemented between software versions; although Google doesn’t necessarily have to keep to the numbering convention. Admittedly, the switch from Android 5.0 to Android 6.0 didn’t bring that many differences.
With the Android 7.0 numbering out of the way, tech observers can get back to the more important task of guessing what dessert Android N will be named after. There can’t be that many options left on the table, and Google has been known to go for the more common varieties of desserts.
Android N is currently in testing with developers, and should be seeing a full public release later this year.
