It has only been a few weeks since the iPhone SE and the smaller 9.7-inch iPad Pro were officially unveiled by Apple, but it appears these two products may be launching in Malaysia very, very soon. Interestingly, as many as two variants of the new iPad Pro could be sold here as well.
In our usual search in SIRIM’s database, we found out that Apple Malaysia has registered three new devices with the certification body: the A1723, A1673 and A1674. The first model number is listed as the iPhone SE, while the latter two are the WiFi and Cellular variants of the 9.7-inch iPad Pro respectively.
If we were to look back at last year’s launch of the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, it took about a month before these two smartphones were officially launched after they have been registered on SIRIM. Chances are, we may be looking at a launch sometime this month or early May 2016 for the iPhone SE. Seeing how our local telcos are already teasing the arrival of the smaller iPhone in Malaysia, we may see a local launch very soon.
While Apple has not revealed the Malaysian pricing of the iPhone SE yet, we have estimated that the 16GB base model may go for RM1,999, while the more practical 64GB variant could retail at RM2,499. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye on any official information on the launch of the iPhone SE as well as the 9.7-inch iPad Pro in Malaysia.
