DxOMark is very well-known for its reviews on smartphone cameras. This time round, it’s the BlackBerry Priv that gets the DxOMark review treatment. The smartphone’s camera scored 82 points, which puts it on equal level with Apple’s iPhone 6s.
DxOMark mentioned that the Priv has excellent dynamic range, generally accurate and fast autofocus in all conditions, as well as well-preserved details. Not only that, video recording on the Priv also received positive comments from DxOMark as the device has good detail preservation and noise reduction.
That being said, the Priv’s camera also has a few cons to it. DxOMark found that the smartphone’s camera has inconsistent white balance and high noise levels, even with images taken in bright light conditions. As for video, the Priv had trouble with stabilisation, which causes visible frame shifts and rotations.
The BlackBerry Priv’s camera now holds a firm fifth place in DxOMark’s top 10 database of reviews. The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and the Sony Xperia Z5 are tied in first place, with the Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy Note 5 in second place, and the Nexus 6P coming in at a close third.
With BlackBerry’s asking price of RM3,559, the Priv offers pretty good hardware with a decent camera to boot. It might be a bit pricey, but for those who put an importance on mobile photography can consider the BlackBerry Priv as a viable choice.
