Two weeks ago, we announced the 2015 Lowyat.NET Community Choice Awards to be open for voting by our readers, offering them a voice to tell us what was the best of 2015. While we did hint of a giveaway for those who voted, we can now confirm our selection of prizes up for grabs!
Before we announce the prizes, we’d like to thank the following sponsors for their generosity in offering prizes for our annual event. It gives me a lot of pleasure to be able to share something back for our readers – without the community, we wouldn’t be where we are today.
Therefore, we’d like to thank Logitech Malaysia, honor Malaysia, Otterbox APAC, Acer Malaysia, and finally NVIDIA for sponsoring prizes that total close to RM8,000! We’ve teased some of the prizes on our social media, but the following is the full list of prizes you stand a chance to win, just by voting in our Community Choice Awards.
Logitech G310 Atlas Dawn
Announced in Malaysia earlier this year, the G310 Atlas Dawn is the “compact” (tenkeyless) model of Logitech’s range of mechanical gaming keyboards, offering a robust keyboard without the weight. Using Logitech’s own Romer-G switches, this keyboard promises to last for years with an expected lifespan of 70 million keystrokes.
Added with the Romer-G’s unique higher actuation point, central backlighting and Arx Control app support, the G310 Atlas Dawn is one of the more innovative gaming keyboards from this year. We also reviewed the keyboard recently – check here for the full review!
Logitech G633 Artemis Spectrum
This flagship gaming headset from Logitech has everything a gamer needs: Dolby Headphone 7.1 support, DTS Headphone X enhancements, patent-pending Pro-G audio drivers and customisable RGB LED strips. What really helps too is the fact that the G633 Artemis Spectrum headset supports up to two audio inputs via 3.5mm audio jack and a USB port. This allows it to work on virtually anything you can game on: the PC, mobile devices and video game consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One.
Finally, what’s a gaming headset without a boom mic? The G633’s mic folds back into the headphones when not in use – very useful so you don’t end up losing it.
honor 7
Easily one of the year’s best value for money smartphones released in Malaysia. The honor 7 improves upon the honor 6 and honor 6 Plus in almost every way, striking a handsome combination of performance and style. Powered by Huawei’s powerful Kirin 935 chipset with 3GB of RAM, the honor 7 offers flagship-level performance for just RM1,399. Other notable hardware highlights include a 20MP Sony rear camera sensor, a 5.2-inch 1080p IPS display, and dual-SIM LTE support.
In our review, we found that the honor 7 consistently exceeded our expectations, while the fingerprint sensor and Smart Key being genuinely useful features. The metal body adds further class to the honor 7, which also disguises the plastic bits (for better radio performance) well.
Otterbox Protective Cases for Mobile Devices (five cases in total)
Otterbox – the brand name is synonymous with incredibly tough smartphone and tablet cases. The Defender series offers unparalleled protection for the active (or clumsy) mobile user, devices protected by these cases have been known to survive multi-storey falls. On the other hand, the Symmetry series are a more stylish approach in device protection, with less bulk but still maintaining the level of protection worthy of the Otterbox name.
For this Awards, Otterbox has sponsored three tablet cases (for Galaxy Tab A 8.0 & 9.7 and iPad mini 4), as well as a Defender case for the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Symmetry case for the Galaxy S6 edge.
Acer Liquid Jade Z (two units)
This Taiwanese company has grown in strength in the last 18 months. As the PC market wanes, Acer continues to be one of the few companies operating on a profit, offering its range of value for money and stylish products. Some time ago it also entered the smartphone industry, with a similar business model of offering value for money devices.
For this Awards, Acer Malaysia has sponsored two units of its Liquid Jade Z smartphone for lucky winners. Announced back at MWC 2015, the Liquid Jade Z is a mid-range dual-SIM LTE smartphone powered by a 1.5GHz MediaTek MT6732 quad-core 64-bit processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB internal storage which is expandable via the phone’s microSD card slot. There’s also a 13MP rear camer as well as a 5MP front-facing shooter. Finally, the Liquid Jade Z sports a 2,300mAh battery.
Palit GeForce GTX 980 Ti Super JetStream 6GB GDDR5
The highlight of our prizes. Generously sponsored by Nvidia, the Palit GeForce GTX 980 Ti is one of the best versions of the GTX 980 Ti – and it’s also one of the most affordable (if you can call RM3,xxx that). As part of the JetStream series, this GPU offers advanced cooling features and an optimized product design that maximises the GTX 980 Ti’s performance and efficiency. Apart from low operating noise levels, the GPU also turns off all fans automatically when the PC is idle (or even in light gaming!)
The Palit GTX 980 Ti Super JetStream is overclocked to 1152MHz out of the box, making it faster than the significantly more expensive Titan X. It also (naturally) supports G-SYNC, quad-SLI, Physx and NVIDIA 3D Vision, while introducing Palit-exclusive features such as the ThunderMaster overclocking tool, MasterMode, large-sized copper base that is adhered directly to the GPU, dual-link DVI, HDMI 2.0 support, and TurboFan blades for optimum cooling.
