Consumers in Shah Alam will soon have another destination to shop for their IT needs as MARA Digital will open its door in Anggerik Mall next year. The announcement is in line with the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development’s plan to establish more MARA Digital retail space in other states throughout the country after it was first opened in Kuala Lumpur earlier this month.
Apart from providing opportunity for Bumiputera entrepreneurs to be involved in IT retail industry, the ministry and MARA itself hoped that the establishment of MARA Digital in Anggerik Mall will be able to spark some life into the mall. Launched in 2007, Anggerik Mall is not exactly popular with visitors as opposed to the adjacent SACC Mall and Kompleks PKNS despite located in the prime area of Shah Alam’s city center.
Set to be opened in February 2016, there are still some challenges that MARA need to address though such as the amount of space that are available in Anggerik Mall. Despite not having a lot of visitors, Anggerik Mall is currently fully occupied and there’s apparently only enough space for 10 to 15 kiosks in the lobby area of the mall.
Let’s not forget that there are also plenty of existing IT retailers at the nearby Plaza Alam Sentral as well. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if the establishment of MARA Digital is able to turn Anggerik Mall around and provides more options to consumers in Shah Alam.
