After the release of the Innovator Edition of the Samsung Gear VR, the company has brought in the Consumer Edition of the Gear VR headset to Malaysia. It might have taken a while for the Gear VR to arrive on Malaysian shores, but those who own a compatible Samsung Galaxy smartphone – and are interested in giving virtual reality a go – would definitely be excited.
The Gear VR is essentially a cradle that holds certain Samsung smartphones, which lets users experience virtual reality games and apps that are available for download from the Google Play Store. Besides just holding a smartphone, Samsung’s VR headset does have other tricks up its sleeve.
To the left of the Gear VR headset is where the microUSB port is located for charging. There is also a dial on the top that lets users adjust the focal length between a user’s eyes and the headset, so that images are clearer. Other than that, the touchpad can be found on the right, along with the volume rocker right in front of it.
Do note that the Samsung Gear VR Consumer Edition only works with a select few Samsung Galaxy smartphones – the Galaxy Note 5, S6 edge+, S6, and of course, the S6 edge. It weighs 318g without the smartphone, and has a field of view of up to 96 degrees.
To learn more about virtual reality and how the Samsung Gear VR works, head on to the product’s official webpage here. It only comes available in white, and it retails for RM459 at Samsung stores nationwide. Those who need help locating a store that sells the Gear VR can try using Samsung’s store locator here.
