Samsung’s next addition to the Galaxy A series has been leaked through promotional materials. The Samsung Galaxy A9 is the logical upsizing of its series; it will feature a 6-inch FHD Super AMOLED display, huge 4000mAh battery, and a fingerprint sensor.
Powering the Galaxy A9 is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 chipset, which features four Cortex-A72 and four Cortex A-53 cores. Powering the graphics is an Adreno 510 GPU. Backing this up is the 3GB RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. There is no mention of what size microSD cards are supported, but it should be substantial enough to avoid complaints.
Rounding out the leaked specifications are an f/1.9 13MP rear camera with OIS, an 8MP front camera with support for panoramic pictures, LTE Cat.7 connectivity, and a fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner will also allow support for Samsung Pay, although it would be nice if Samsung brought the service to this country as well.
Interestingly, the promo materials indicate that the massive 4000mAh battery can also be used for reverse charging. This is noteworthy due to the fact that the feature is not supported in Android 5.1.1 Lollipop; which is what the Galaxy A9 ships with. It is expected that an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow will soon follow the release of the phone.
An official announcement of the Samsung Galaxy A9 should happen later this month, and the device itself is expected to go on sale at Christmas or early next year. There’s no price yet, but it is expected to cost more than 3000 yuan (about RM2000).
