Acer has just launched a slew of gaming products in Malaysia today. These include the Predator 15 and 17 laptops, Predator 8 gaming tablet, Predator G6 and G3 desktops, and as many as three Predator gaming monitors.
Let’s start with one of the main highlights of the launch: the Predator 15 and 17 gaming laptops. Aside from the screen size (15.6-inch and 17.3-inch on the Predator 15 and Predator 17 respectively), these laptops are almost identical in terms of specification: both have a 1080p display, a sixth generation Intel Core i7-6700HQ processor, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980M graphics card, and up to 256GB of M.2 SSD storage paired with 1TB of 7,200RPM SATA HDD.
Interestingly, the RAM capacity of both laptops is different. The Predator 15 can be configured with up to 24GB of DDR4 RAM while the Predator 17 can be bought with up to 32GB of DDR4 RAM. The former can also be purchased with a GTX 970M graphics card, which is more affordable than the GTX 980M model (which goes for RM8,999) at RM6,999. It’s worth noting that the 970M model only has 16GB of RAM and comes with a 128GB SSD. The Predator 17, on the other hand, costs RM7,999 for the 16GB RAM model; the 32GB RAM variant goes for a whopping RM10,999, although it has a much faster 256GB PCIe SSD.
Next, we have the Predator 8 gaming tablet. Running on Android 5.1 Lollipop, it has an 8-inch 1920 x 1200 16:10 IPS display, an Intel Atom x7-Z8700 quad-core processor clocked at 1.6GHz, 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, 32GB of built-in memory, a microSD card slot which supports cards up to 128GB, and a 4,420mAh battery. The Predator 8 also has a brushed aluminium design and Predator TacSense, which will supposedly improve gameplay with more haptic feedback tuned for gaming. This gaming tablet will go for RM1,499 in Malaysia.
Also launched at today’s event are the Predator G3 and G6 desktops, which feature a very aggressive design. For now, Acer Malaysia will only be offering the Predator G6; the G3 will only be available on our shores in January 2016. In terms of hardware, the G6 has an Intel Core i7-6700K processor paired with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 graphics card, 128GB of M.2 SSD storage along with a 2TB SATA HDD, and a 730W PSU. The Predator G6 gaming desktop will retail at RM8,999.
Finally, we have the three gaming monitors with support for NVIDIA G-Sync: the Predator Z35, X34 and XB1. As its name suggests, the Z35 is a 35-inch curved monitor with an aspect ratio of 21:9. It also has a resolution of 2560 x 1080, a curvature of 2,000R, and a refresh rate of 144Hz (overclockable to 200Hz). As for the Z35’s retail price, it is set at RM3,999.
Moving on, we have the Predator X34, which is also a 21:9 curved monitor with a curvature of 3,800R. It features a 34-inch 3440 x 1440 QHD IPS display, a grey to grey response time of 4ms (similar to the Z35), and a refresh rate of 60Hz, which can be overclocked to 100Hz. It retails at RM4,599.
The Predator XB1, on the other hand, has two models: XB271HU and XB281HK. The former is a 27-inch IPS monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1440 and a grey to grey response time of 4ms. The XB271HU also has a refresh rate of 144Hz, which can be further overclocked to 165Hz. As for the XB281HK, it features a 28-inch 3840 x 2160 4K TN display, a rather impressive grey to grey response time of 1ms, and a refresh rate of up to 60Hz. The Predator XB271HU and XB281HK retail at RM3,299 and RM2,599 respectively.
