OnePlus is no stranger when it comes to marketing stunts. This particular one, however, is a little different. Not too long ago, the young Chinese company has announced an exclusive product for the iPhone 6 and 6s: a Sandstone case, and it comes with a OnePlus X invite as well.
Needless to say, this is a very, very odd decision at first thought. When asked why OnePlus would make a case for the iPhone, Carl Pei – the co-founder of OnePlus – had this to say:
Although most of my friends have converted to the OnePlus family, there’s still a hand full stuck with iPhones. This is for them. I think a lot of OnePlus fans can relate.
On OnePlus’ own blog, the company mentioned that “just like with anything else we really love, we want to share it (the Sandstone texture) with others.” OnePlus then added that it’s a way for iPhone users to experience how it is to own a OnePlus device. After all, OnePlus boasts that the Sandstone texture is the company’s “signature finish for its flagship line.”
Regardless of OnePlus’ intention, more choice of accessories is always a good thing. That being said, iPhone 6 Plus and 6s Plus owners are out of luck: the US$20 (about RM85) Sandstone case is only available for the smaller iPhone 6 and 6s.
