Announced a few months back, the Illegear Z5 has finally been refreshed; it now comes with a Skylake processor. Not surprisingly, the new processor also raises the retail price slightly, although it’s worth noting that the Z5 also comes with DDR4 RAM now.
Powering the Illegear Z5 is a Skylake-based Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor, which should provide plenty of processing power. Along with the new chipset is support for DDR4 RAM, and the Z5 comes with 8GB of it. Of course, this being an Illegear machine, the Z5 can be customised to any buyer’s liking.
Other specifications of the Illegear Z5 include a 15.6-inch 1080p IPS display, a 1TB 7,200rpm Hitachi HDD, two M.2 SSD slots, two-year warranty, and two choices of graphics card: NVIDIA GTX 960M or GTX 970M. Every purchase of the Z5 also comes with an Illegear backpack and a velvet sleeve.
Interestingly enough, the base model – which goes for RM4,599 – is not equipped with an anodised aluminium back cover that we have previously reported. In order to get this particular cover, buyers will have to fork out RM49. While this may seem costly, it’s worth noting that the aluminium back cover also comes with external antenna, which should provide better signal and coverage.

The Illegear Z5 is now available for purchase on the company’s website. It goes for RM4,599 and RM5,598 for the GTX 960M and GTX 970M models respectively. Potential buyers can also opt for a TN panel instead of an IPS one to get RM100 discount. More information on the Illegear Z5 can be found here.
