Earlier this year, Xiaomi and Microsoft announced a collaboration to bring Windows 10 to the Xiaomi Mi 4. Now, the wait is over as the company has just announced that the Windows 10 Mobile ROM for the device will be released on the 3rd of December.
Bin Lin, Vice President of Xiaomi, has posted an update on Weibo saying that Windows 10 Mobile for Mi 4 will be released on the 3rd of December. Beta testers have flashed the Windows 10 Mobile Build 1058, which is supposedly the stable and smooth version of the ROM. This should also be the build that will be released to the public this coming Thursday.
The Xiaomi Mi 4 is a 5-inch phone that runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, coupled with 3GB of RAM. It has a 13MP camera on the back with a 5MP camera on the front. Judging from the device’s hardware specifications, Windows 10 Mobile should run just fine on the Mi 4.
It seems that the Windows 10 Mobile ROM will not be an over-the-air (OTA) update, so those interested will have to flash it onto their Xiaomi Mi 4 by themselves. Also, do take note that dual-booting is not possible; Windows 10 will replace Android as the phone’s sole operating system.
