If you are a fan of RPG or strategy games who happen to like the Steam Controller, then you are in luck, for the controller received a new function for its touchpad. Steam released a client beta update which makes the touch pad more viable to Steam players.
The new Mouse Region mode, finally allows the touchpad to warp cursors to a corresponding point of the game’s map with the touch of a thumb. The pad can also be reduced to certain zones in order to view the on-screen hotkeys or a minimap; basically, the pad turns into a 1:1 map of the game.
Additionally, the Mouse Region can also be used to increase accuracy and responsiveness. This is especially effective for strategy or RPG games in a top-down perspective.
Besides the Mouse Region function, the Steam Controller also received more updates with an improved finger tracking system for the touchpad and various bug fixes. The update is a welcome change to the owners of the controller, especially when it comes to the Mouse Region functionality. There were some mixed reviews of the Steam Controller, including the right pad, which they find it impractical to use in several occasions.
For anyone unfamiliar with the Steam Controller, it is a hardware that allows Steam players to play their Steam games on television, similar to playing on a console. It features dual trackpads, HD haptic feedback, dual-stage triggers, and customisable control schemes.
