Update: the pre-order date has been revealed. Read on to find out more.
This is a very big surprise. Brightstar has just opened a pre-order page for the OnePlus X in Malaysia. This marks the first time a OnePlus device isn’t sold through a telco – both the OnePlus One and 2 were only available officially from Maxis.
Brightstar has quietly put up a listing for the OnePlus X on Lazada. According to the pre-order page, the X will be shipping on the 4th of December 2015. For a retail price of RM1,288, the Malaysian pricing is about RM238 more; the OnePlus X goes for US$249 (approximately RM1,050) when it was officially announced.
That being said, we don’t have to go through the hassle of securing an invite to purchase the OnePlus X, which somewhat makes up for the slightly higher retail price. Although Brightstar has listed the X for pre-order, you can’t actually place an order yet. At the time of writing, only the “coming soon” button is available on the page.
Specification-wise, the OnePlus X is quite well-equipped for its asking price. It has a 5-inch 1080p AMOLED display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 16GB of built-in memory that is expandable with a microSD card up to 128GB, a modest 2,525mAh battery, 13MP rear and 7.6MP front-facing cameras, as well as a premium construction of glass and metal.
Considering the OnePlus X was only officially announced a month ago, its arrival in Malaysia is pretty quick. That being said, its retail price is also higher than expected. Whether or not this matters to consumers here remains to be seen.
The OnePlus X will be available for pre-order here from the 27th of November to the 3rd of December 2015. All major retailers will have the X for sale the day after the pre-order ends on the 4th of December.
