Just recently, AT&T started to notify its customers that the new LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition had a ‘quality and hardware issue’. The issue with the smartwatch was described as “complicated and that it affects the day-to-day functionality of the device”. AT&T will be offering a full refund to customers that had already purchased the smartwatch from it.
LG has confirmed this issue and it will also stop the rollout of the device worldwide; there are no details on when the smartwatch will be available again. In addition, Verizon, which was due to release the product for sale tomorrow, has also put a halt on the sale of the smartwatch. As a result, Verizon will not ship to customers that had already pre-ordered the watch earlier. This probably means that LG’s new smartwatch won’t be coming to Malaysia any time soon.
The LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition was recently announced a few months ago and has been available for customers in the US since last week. LG’s latest smartwatch is the first smartwatch running the latest update to Android Wear OS that comes with LTE support. How customers are going to react to this recall remains to be seen. LG said that its top priority now is to ensure that only products that meets its very specific quality standards will be available for sale.
