Earlier this month, we have seen two new Windows 10-based Microsoft Lumia smartphones made their appearance on SIRIM’s database in the form of Lumia 550 and Lumia 950. Apparently, there is also another model that has also gone through SIRIM’s certification not long after that which turns out to the next flagship model for the series, the Lumia 950 XL.
Registered as RM-1116, that model number is identical to Lumia 950 XL’s listing on Microsoft Mobile’s SAR database. As expected, the model is registered in SIRIM’s database under Microsoft Malaysia as well as three other distributors: Avaxx, Zitron, and ECS Astar.
Built with a 5.7-inch Quad HD (2560 x 1440) AMOLED ClearBlack display with a pixel density of 518 ppi, the Lumia 950 XL is powered by a 2.0 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor. It also comes with 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, and support for microSD card. According to SIRIM’s listing, the variant of Lumia 950 XL that went through its certification process also supports dual SIM cards.
In terms of photography, the Lumia 950 XL features a 20-megapixels sensor on its rear auto focus PureView camera that is also equipped with 6-elements lens by Zeiss, optical image stabilization, triple LED flash, and ability to capture video in 4K resolution. The phone also comes with a 5-megapixels front facing camera.
Apart from the premium components that we mentioned above, what made the Lumia 950 XL even more attractive is that it also features Continuum which allows users to utilize it just like a common desktop PC when connected into an external monitor or TV. Additionally, it also supports Windows Hello which enables users to unlock the phone using iris authentication.
In general, this means that all three new Windows 10-based Lumia smartphones that were launched at Microsoft’s event in New York last month are now ready to be released into our market. Hence, there are only two main questions left for them: if or when will they be on sale and how much will they cost here in Malaysia.
Hope these questions will be answered soon enough although we do realize that the price tag for Lumia 950 XL in Malaysia will most likely to be quite hefty considering that the device already costs USD 649 (RM 2,842) in United States. For now, do check out our hands-on with Lumia 950 XL right here.
