Starting from today onwards, Google Play customers in Malaysia might be able to purchase apps and in-app products at a much lower price. This is due the fact that Google has lowered down the minimum purchase price for apps and in-app products on Google Play for Malaysian market.
Specifically, developers can now set the minimum purchase price for their apps and in-app products on Google Play for Malaysia to as low as RM 1. Prior to this announcement, the minimum price for Malaysia was RM 3.50.
According to Google Play, this move was done in order provide developers with more flexibility as each market has its own challenges, opportunities and purchasing behavior. In addition to Malaysia, Google has also reduced the minimum purchase price in 16 other markets throughout the world with many of them being developing countries.
It is too early to predict how this announcement will affect the Android app economy in Malaysia, local developers might want to use it to their advantages. After all, Malaysia is considered one of the fastest growing market in the region when it comes to mobile apps.
