Xiaomi has been teasing a new product earlier this morning, and now, it turns out to be…a pack of 10 AA batteries dubbed Mi Rainbow 5. Seems like the company is manufacturing every single tech-related item it can think of.
At first glance, the Mi Rainbow 5 batteries look almost like crayons, especially with them packed into the translucent packaging. In China, the number “5” actually stands for AA batteries, which explains why these cells have that number printed on them.
These new batteries are actually manufactured by one of Xiaomi’s ecosystem partners, Zmi, which produces Xiaomi’s range of power banks as well. According to the rapidly growing company, these AA batteries can last up to seven years from the date of production. As these battries utilise “high quality carbon rod” from Maxell (a Japanese company), Xiaomi claims the Mi Rainbow 5 has higher discharge than other AA batteries.
Unfortunately, the Mi Rainbow 5 batteries are not rechargeable. That being said, considering 10 of these only cost a meagre 9.9 Chinese yuan (about RM6), we can’t exactly expect much. As usual, no word yet on whether or not the Mi Rainbow 5 will be reaching Malaysia.
