After making a bold statement regarding its LTE coverage earlier this month, DiGi today has revealed yet another grand plan for its LTE services. As it turns out, the telco has started testing Voice over LTE (VoLTE) on its network.
According to DiGi, VoLTE enables the telco to deliver faster call connection and better audio quality. This is apparently made possible due to the higher amount of bandwidth that available on LTE but of course, VoLTE is only available on devices that actually supports the technology. That being said, there are already plenty of smartphones at lower mid-range to high-end price points in the market that already have the capability.
Since it is still under internal testing, the VoLTE feature on DiGi’s LTE network is not yet available for end users. The activation is expected to take place only in 2016. Furthermore, DiGi has yet to reveal whether VoLTE will be made available as value-added service on top of its customer’s existing subscription or as a separate, optional add-on feature.
All in all, we hope that the feature will be roll out on schedule just like how the company able to meet its LTE expansion target for this year. Expect to hear more about VoLTE on DiGi’s network next year.
