Chinese smartphone manufacturers have been rather bold lately, offering consumers the chance to trade-in certain devices for one of the company’s own smartphones. We’ve seen OnePlus offering the OnePlus 2 for one of Samsung’s latest flagships, and now, Meizu is doing the same to OnePlus.
Those who happen to have a OnePlus 2 in their possession can trade it in for Meizu’s brand new flagship, the Pro 5. Monetarily, the Meizu Pro 5 actually costs more than the OnePlus 2. In contrast to the latter’s price tag of RM1,687 (before 6% GST) in Malaysia, the Pro 5 goes for 2,799 Chinese yuan (about RM1,890) and 3,099 yuan (approximately RM2,095) for the 32GB and 64GB models respectively in China.
That being said, this trade-in program is actually a contest. In order to be eligible, interested users will have to fill up this form and tell Meizu why you’d want to “turn the heat off,” which is obviously a jab at the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor powering the OnePlus 2. Even the image promoting this contest looks exactly like the one OnePlus did.
Although Meizu said that it will email the winners later this week, it did not clarify whether or not this contest is available internationally, nor did it mention how many winners will be selected. That being said, there’s really no harm in trying if you’re keen to get the Pro 5. If you’d like to learn more about Meizu’s latest device, check out our hands on of it here.
