Starting today, Maxis is scrapping the requirement of an invite code to purchase the OnePlus 2 from the local telco’s outlets and online store, allowing you to purchase the smartphone without a contract and without an invite.
Dubbed the 2016 Flagship Killer, the OnePlus 2 sports a 5.5-inch Full HD display, running on a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. It runs on Android 5.1-based Oxygen OS out of the box, with a 13MP rear shooter and a 5MP front camera.
Initially, Maxis required interested users to purchase the OnePlus 2 with a 2-year One Plan contract, before removing that requirement recently. Today, users can not only get the OnePlus 2 off-contract, they can buy it outright for RM1,687 (not including GST) at any Maxis outlet or from Maxis’ online store. No invite codes or contracts needed. You can still opt to get the device with a One Plan, which includes the option of purchasing the product with Zerolution for an extra RM30 a month.
The removal of the contract and invite requirements will be good news to those who have been waiting to purchase the device on its own. That being said, this move feels a little late to come, especially for fans who have been waiting for the option to purchase the device outright.
