Turns out the “next generation” product that Xiaomi teased last week is a brand new Mi TV. Enter the Mi TV 3, a smart TV with a 4K panel from LG. The main selling points of this new TV are its ridiculously thin profile of only 11.6mm and a very, very unique two-part construction.
Of course, the 11.6mm profile is the Mi TV 3’s measurement at its thinnest point. Its thickest point, on the other hand, measures at a much bulkier 36.7mm. On the front, we can see that the smart TV has a very minimal bezel, giving it a very sleek appearance. It also has a pretty interesting stand design.
Appearance aside, there are actually two parts to the Mi TV 3: the display itself and a sound bar. The smart TV’s motherboard is built into the sound bar, and as a result, all of the ports are located there instead of the TV itself. Only one cable is necessary to link the sound bar to the display. We imagine cable management will be a breeze with the Mi TV 3.
Rounding out the specifications of the Mi TV 3 are a 60-inch LG-made true 4K display, MEMC motion compensation to reduce blurring, a high colour gamut, and MIUI TV based on Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box.
The Xiaomi Mi TV 3 is set to go for 4,999 yuan (about RM3,320) once it is available for purchase. Xiaomi will also be selling the sound bar (which the company dubs Mi TV Bar) separately. More information on these new products from Xiaomi can be found here.
