MSI has introduced a brand new product, the GS40 Phantom. As a 14-inch gaming laptop, it seems to be MSI’s answer to the Razer Blade and Aorus X3 Plus. Looking at its specifications, the GS40 is quite the gaming machine as well.
Under the hood of the GS40 is the brand new Skylake-based Intel Core-i7-6700HQ paired with 16GB of DDR4 RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M GPU, a very fast 256GB PCIe SSD, and a 1TB 7200rpm SATA HDD. All of these hardware are packed into a 22.8mm thin laptop, which weighs about 1.6kg.
As for the GS40’s display, it’s a 14-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution IPS panel. While a higher resolution display would give the Razer Blade a run for its money, the 1080p panel should help with battery life. Plus, it’s mostly ideal to game at 1080p anyway, especially with a GTX 970M graphics card.
Rounding out the specifications of the GS40 are a red backlit keyboard by SteelSeries, a USB 3.1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 ports, an ethernet port, and an SD card reader. The addition of a USB Type-C port on the GS40 is a welcome one, which somewhat future-proof the laptop.
The MSI GS40 Phantom will be arriving in Malaysia by the end of November 2015 for RM8,999. If you’d like to learn more about MSI’s latest portable gaming machine, you can do so here.
