After appearing on SIRIM a couple of weeks ago, the Huawei Mate S has received a Malaysian launch date. According to our source, Huawei’s latest flagship device could be launching here on the 27th of October 2015. It will also be the most expensive device from Huawei to date; potentially costing as much as the new iPhone 6s.
Officially unveiled back at IFA 2015, the Mate S’ key feature is its pressure-sensitive display. Just like Apple’s 3D Touch for its brand new iPhones, the Mate S can differentiate how much pressure is applied to the screen, opening up new ways to use the phone. These include the ability to zoom in on pictures by simply pressing harder on the screen, and even using the phone as a scale. However, the pressure-sensitive display is only equipped on the highest-end model with 128GB of internal storage.
Other specifications of the Mate S include a 5.5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution AMOLED display, a HiSilicon Kirin 935 processor – the very same chipset powering the honor 7 – paired with 3GB of RAM, up to 128GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, a 2,700mAh battery, a new and improved fingerprint sensor, as well as dual-4G capability. In the camera department, the Mate S has a 13MP rear camera with optical image stabilisation, and an 8MP front-facing snapper.
In Europe, the Huawei Mate S is priced at 649 euro (about RM3,095) and 699 euro (approximately RM3,330) for the 32GB and 64GB variants respectively. With the 32GB model’s retail price reaching the RM3,000 mark in Europe, we won’t be surprised if the Mate S is similarly priced in Malaysia.
