At Acer’s Windows 10 event yesterday, the Taiwanese company also showcased several products that it unveiled back at IFA 2015. One of the more interesting products was the Revo Build, a small form factor PC made of modular, stackable parts.
The Revo Build is tiny, with a shape similar to the Revo One. Occupying a space that’s just 125 x 125mm, this will sit nicely into any living room space or desk. Each independent module connects to another via proprietary magnetic pins located at the top and bottom part of the module. Acer separates each major hardware as a separate module: processor and GPU, portable hard drive, and at the top lies a power bank with a wireless charger – because why not?
Surprisingly, the Revo Build isn’t the first of its kind. At CES 2015, Lenovo created something very similar called the ThinkPad Stack. Each module houses an independent set of hardware that can be connected together to “build” a mini PC.
Despite the interesting idea, Acer is only shipping the Revo Build with either an Intel Pentium of Celeron processor – just enough to run basic PC tasks. After all, it is designed as a lifestyle-based product for the living room. The Acer Revo Build M1-601, as it is officially called, will begin selling in China this month from 1,999 Yuan (about RM1,320). Acer did not disclose the prices of the individual modules, however.
