At its global launch event in Taiwan today, Acer also took the opportunity to showcase the capabilities of its high-end Windows 10 smartphone, the Acer Liquid Jade Primo.
Unveiled back at IFA 2015, the Liquid Jade Primo is Acer’s first smartphone powered by Windows 10. It features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display, and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor. Few further information is available about the device, besides the 21MP rear and 8MP front cameras.
The Liquid Jade Primo runs on Windows 10 Mobile, though since the platform isn’t yet available, the device on display is running on a test build of the Windows 10 Insider Program. However, one of the features that Acer is especially proud of with the Liquid Jade Primo is Continuum, a prominent feature for high-end devices running Windows 10 Mobile. At the event earlier today, Acer showcased Continuum on the Liquid Jade Primo with its bundled accessories, comprising a dock, wireless keyboard and wireless mouse.
Acer again reiterated that the Liquid Jade Primo will ship with these accessories when it becomes available; Acer Smartphone Business President ST Liew joked on stage that they’re even considering bundling a monitor to provide everything a user would need to use Continuum on the smartphone.
While Continuum can run wirelessly, Acer is bundling a dock with A/C in, three USB ports, HDMI-out and a male microUSB port to charge your phone with. Once connected to a secondary display, users can enable the Continuum feature – currently, only a few Windows 10 universal apps support this feature, but with greater adoption of Windows 10, users can expect a larger number of apps that support Continuum in future.
On the Liquid Jade Primo, users can run several universal apps at a time, and the smartphone display can be used as a touchpad to navigate Windows 10 on the monitor. However, as with other devices that support Continuum, users are free to use the smartphone to do other things, while still using the universal apps on the secondary display. We cannot comment on how Continuum performed because it is running a test build – Windows 10 Mobile still isn’t ready to ship – but for the most part it works as promised on the Liquid Jade Primo.
And since there is no confirmed release date for Windows 10 Mobile, there is also no confirmed price nor release date for the Acer Liquid Jade Primo.
