Astro has unveiled a new service the company dubs On Demand (OD). With it, Astro subscribers (and non-subscribers alike) can watch the latest shows and movies on their devices using Astro on the Go. Depending on what kind of content you’re looking for, some content of this service is available for free – only to Astro subscribers, of course.
If you’re familiar with Astro’s services, OD works just like Astro’s Video On Demand (VOD) service. What has changed, however, is the amount of content available now. There are now three different options: OD Free, OD Plus, and OD Store.
OD Free is just like what its name suggests; it’s a free option for Astro subscribers. Depending on what packages a particular subscriber has signed up with, they can download shows that they have missed out on. The best part is, users are able to watch the show while it’s being downloaded; provided they have a fast Internet connection.
OD Store, on the other hand, is reserved for recently released movies. These include The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fast & Furious 7, Star Wars, as well as Inside Out. Of course, these movies are only available for purchase; no free movie here.
Finally, we have OD Plus, which is available to both subscribers and non-subscribers of Astro. (Non-subscribers will have to use Astro on the Go to access this option.) For a monthly fee of RM15.90, subscribers of OD Plus can enjoy a variety of TV series and movies. These include The Flash, Arrow, the complete collection of Harry Potter movies, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and Big Bang Theory. Think of it as an answer to iFlix, if you will.
If you’re an Astro subscriber, you’re entitled to three months of OD Plus. All you have to do is connect your PVR to WiFi before 31st January 2016. Oddly enough, you’ll have to give Astro a call (03 9543 3838) to claim the free preview. If you don’t have a PVR and you’re using an older decoder instead, you can call 03 9543 3838 or 1300 82 9888 to upgrade; you can also upgrade online. More information on Astro OD can be found here.
